Technical Analysis vs. Fundamental Analysis

By Abdelhak K. on June 8, 2025

Updated 31 August 2026. People argue TA vs FA as if you must pick a religion. On this desk they answer different questions. Fundamentals: is the dollar bid this week because of the Fed path? Technicals: if I am wrong, where is the level that kills the idea? Mixing them badly — a “bullish CPI” story with a stop inside the noise — is how accounts die.

Technicals: the market already voted

Price is the record of executed orders. We use charts to see trend (higher highs / higher lows or the reverse), obvious swing points, and whether the last push had follow-through or a long wick of rejection. Indicators (moving averages, RSI) are derived from that same price. They do not add secret information. We treat them as filters, not entries.

Invalidation is a technical job. A level that “should hold” is only a level if you will exit when it does not. That is the stop in the risk process. Candles that look pretty without a level are decoration. Read the candlestick note next if you want pattern names without treating them as signals.

Fundamentals: why the flow might persist

For G10 FX the heavy objects are inflation prints, labour data, and central-bank reaction functions. A stronger-than-expected US CPI print can reprice Fed cuts; EURUSD often moves before you finish reading the headline. That does not tell you the next 20 pips. It tells you the session may not be a quiet range. We park that on the calendar and on the central-bank piece.

Crypto “fundamentals” (whitepaper, TVL, team) are slower and easier to fake in marketing. Reda covers that in the DeFi and scam articles. Do not import equity-style DCF into a token and call it science.

How we combine them in analysis

Bias from the calendar and from higher-timeframe structure. Execution from a level we can defend. If NFP is in 20 minutes, we often want no open risk unless the plan explicitly accepts gap risk. If the chart is a mess and the data is quiet, we can still be wrong — we just size as if we will be.

Neither method predicts. Both can be used to refuse a trade. Refusing is a valid output of analysis. This is not a system that “beats” TA-only or FA-only YouTube accounts. It is how we keep the daily stream from turning into gambling with a story attached.

A week on the desk, without picking a religion

Hypothetical teaching week, not a forecast: Monday the dollar is already bid because markets priced a sticky inflation path. EURUSD is making lower highs on the 4-hour. That is a fundamental bias plus a technical structure. We do not need a new indicator. We need to decide whether a pullback to a marked level is a short we can invalidate, or whether the next US print is so close that we should be flat. Tuesday is quiet data. We can work a level. Wednesday is a CPI-style release. The same level is still on the chart; the order is not the same order, because the spread and the gap risk changed. That is combining the two methods without turning either into a slogan.

What we refuse: a “fundamentally bullish” story that forces a long into a clean downtrend with a stop stuffed inside the last three bars. What we also refuse: a pretty higher-low that sits twenty minutes before a central-bank decision and is sized as if the session were a Tuesday grind. Both are ways to pretend you have a method.

Indicators, news wires, and what they are not

A 50-period moving average is a smoother of the same closes you already see. RSI being “oversold” on a pair that is repricing a Fed surprise can stay oversold while you donate. We may glance at them so viewers who use them hear the same language; we do not let them veto a clear invalidation. Likewise a headline feed is not a trading plan. “USD stronger on yields” is a sentence. It does not tell you the lot size. The lot size still comes from the calculator and the 1% cap.

Multi-timeframe work is technical, but it is also a discipline check. Daily bias, 4-hour structure, 15-minute execution is a common stack. The failure mode is using the 1-minute to talk yourself out of a stop you placed from the 4-hour. Pick which chart owns invalidation before the session. Write it down. If you keep changing the chart that “counts,” you are not doing analysis. You are negotiating with the P&L.

When we publish analysis vs when we stay quiet

A stream that must always have a trade will invent one. A valid output of TA plus FA is “nothing.” Thin summer liquidity, a one-sided data week, or a pair that is only moving because of a single name in the cross — those are days we talk about levels and about standing aside. That is still content. It is not a cop-out. Viewers who need a ticket every day should not use this desk as a signal service, because we are not one.

This comparison will not crown a winner. People make money and lose money with both labels. Our job is to keep the daily show from mixing a story and a stop in a way that hides the risk. Educational only. Not financial advice. Hypothetical numbers in this piece are for teaching.
